Match at a glance

The Dutch players started better in the match, controlling completely the game in the first set. The Russian players, however, found back their rhythm and with some smart play on the net and strong serves, brought back the intrigue.

Bocharova and Voronina continued putting pressure on the serve in the beginning of the decisive, third set. Bocharova was performing good on the block, and slowly Russia built up a 5-points difference. Schoon and Stam, however, amazed the crowds in The Hague, as they got closer and took the lead. Katja Stam on block in the last minutes was on fire, helping team NED to take the last available Tokyo 2020 ticket.

Quotes

“I think that what we did on the court is to do our job well, especially in the last set when we came back. We are so young and we did it so good here in the tournament against world top teams!”

Raisa Schoon (NED)

“The atmosphere here at the stadium was amazing. The feeling that our fans gave us, was as if we were playing with an additional player on the court. Tomorrow, we play our compatriots for the actual ticket to Tokyo 2020, and if we go, it would mean a lot!”

Katja Stam (NED)
